Tragedy has thrown the whole of Warri into anguish after the Olu of Warri, Ikenwoli Godfrey Emiko, dies from COVID-19 complications.
According to Sahara Reporters, the monarch was said to have died on Monday morning, this is barely a week after his fifth coronation anniversary. It was gathered that he was said to have met with the late Major General John Irefin, who died earlier this month from COVID-19 complications.
Though none of the palace chiefs was willing to confirm or deny it, there was obvious apprehension in the palace vicinity on Monday while some people were also in a sombre mood.
The late monarch, who was born on March 19, 1955, ascended the throne on December 12, 2015.
Kemi Filani News recalls the nephew to the now late Olu of Warri, Prince Tajirin Emiko, was been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Houston, Texas, United States.
Tajirin, 23, was found in his car last Monday by detectives from the
Houston Police Department, but his death was ruled as a homicide by the
coroner’s office investigating the incident.
Tajirin’s father, Prince Yemi Emiko, told PUNCH over the phone on
Saturday that the police had commenced investigation into the case.
He explained that he received a call from Tajirin’s girlfriend, Dauphine, on Tuesday, informing him
that his son did not come home on Monday, which he said was unusual.
Yemi said;
“Maybe early next week, we’ll begin to have a clearer pictures of what
happened. The body is still with the police in their morgue, they are
not releasing it until they have accomplished some level of
investigation; the mother has been crying, everyone is devastated,” the
anguished father explained.
