Third Mainland Bridge to be closed this weekend

FG set to shut down Third Mainland bridge

The first phase rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge has been completed and the federal government has announced a planned 18-hour total closure of the bridge this weekend.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola, explained the closure was necessary, so that debris would be cleared from the section completed and construction would move to the Island-bound carriageway.

The 18-hour closure would begin from midnight on Saturday through Sunday. By midnight of Sunday, the total closure would be removed and the partial closure would return.

“The diversions will still be at the same previous points.

“Work is to commence on the Island-bound lane of the bridge with the partial closure of Adekunle to Adeniji Adele Phase B.

“The repair work is to commence between 22nd of November, 2020 and 22nd of February, 2021 for a duration of three months,” he said.

Gov Abiodun in trouble as Pupils die after taking deworming drugs in Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun has been berated by the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the death of two female pupils of Saint James African Church Primary School, Idi- Ape, Abeokuta, who died allegedly after taking the state government deworming drugs.

According to the PDP, the pupils had died “after taking the deworming drugs administered on school-age children by a medical team from the state government.”

Although the state Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, in a statement, maintained that the school children must have died from an outbreak of cholera, the Ogun PDP spokesperson, Akinloye Bankole, in a newly released statement claims otherwise.

The statement reads “the levity with which the Abiodun government is handling the general issue of governance and issues bordering on health and medical services of the people.”
