The Federal Government has issued a new warning to schools on their resumption after months of lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) briefing on Monday in Abuja, stressed that 10 percent of coronavirus cases in the country are under 19 years old, thus:
“With regard to COVID-19 and growing complacency, it is important to stress that, even though adults, especially those 60 years and above are more vulnerable, complications do occur in all age groups.
“Records show that 10 percent of all positive cases we have treated are below the age of 19 years.
“Therefore, as schools begin to reopen in some areas, I urge caution and adherence to the protocols and advisories for re-opening schools, in order to join us to prevent the COVID-19 surge,” Ehanire said.
There are currently over 57,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
