Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, has said that castration is a worthy punishment for rapists.
Nigeria has been hit with a series of rape incident with some leading to the death of the victims. Others involved minors where one 11-year-old girl was raped by 14 men in Jigawa State.
Shortly after the House of Representatives voted against castration of rapists, Abike Dabiri-Erewa took to social media to air her opinion.
She tweeted: “I hope Nigerian women are not becoming an endangered species. And I hope the whole society will rise and save the Nigerian women and the Nigerian girl. Now, it’s not just women. Men, women…
“Just on Social Media yesterday, a woman took a picture of being sexually harassed in the bus.
“We need to speak out against violence against women, particularly rape and all forms of violence. I sponsored a bill of violence against women in parliament it’s a law now. I hope we all use that law”.
