Following her embarrassing arrest few hours ago for throwing a house party, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has said as Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, is not a brand ambassador of the agency.
The Lagos state police command had arrested the movie star for organizing a house party amid lockdown and social distancing directive over coronavirus pandemic.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Bala Elkana, said Akindele was apprehended for violating restriction orders in the state.
The police also said that singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley and JJC Skillz were among those seen at the party.
He asked the duo to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday in their interest or risk being declared wanted.
Funke Akindele had hosted a birthday party for her husband, singer Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz.
Thousands of Nigerians on social media had called for the arrest of the actress, popularly called ‘Jenifa’ after video of the party surfaced online.
The actress has been said to be an ambassador for the NCDC) and Dettol after she appeared in adverts calling on Nigerians to observe social distancing and hygiene.
However, reacting to the incident, NCDC, while replying to tweets by Dettol Nigeria, said it has not engaged brand ambassadors as part the response to COVID-19.
“As an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, NCDC has not engaged brand ambassadors as part of our response to #COVID19. We continue to emphasise that all Nigerians maintain #socialdistancing to prevent the spread of #COVID19, ” the agency said in a tweet.
