Ovation Magazine boss, Dele Momodu has shared an amazing story of the late philanthropist, Chief MKO Abiola, and how he ensured his guests never left his house empty-handed.
Dele Momodu who was a staff at Concord Newspapers also narrated how he got a wristwatch from MKO Abiola due to his effort in ensuring that the reigning singer at the time, Sir Shina Peters, performed at his house.
He shared on Instagram: “UNFORGETTABLE… I remember being called by my boss at Concord Newspapers Managing Director DR MRS HAMIDAT DOYINSOLA ABIOLA: “Dele, your Chairman wants Sir Shina Peters to perform at home tomorrow and I told him you’re the authority on Shina at Concord…” This was about 30 years ago. I went to Shina’s house in Iju where I met Shina’s amazing wife MRS SAMMIE AYOKA PETERS and informed her of CHIEF MOSHOOD ABIOLA’s request, as Shina was not at home. Sister Sammie promised that SIR SHINA PETERS will definitively turn up with his band tomorrow. “E ma worry Baba oko mi…” I left and headed to Chairman’s house on Moshood Abiola Crescent in Ikeja. Chief was ecstatic about Shina Peters and he gifted me a gold wristwatch that evening…You would hardly leave Chief’s house empty-handed. This was the show… Later heard he gave Shina a stupendous amount of cash”.
