The Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has described as false the claim that palm oil is effective in curing COVID-19.
Nigeria currently has over 1,700 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with over 30 person dead from complications of the virus.
Reacting to a claim that the virus can be cured using palm oil, the NCDC advised people to ignore such information.
In a tweet shared, the NCDC stated that the best thing to do is to follow the guidelines given by health authorities concerning the virus.
The tweet read: “The claim that drinking palm oil can stop the spread of #COVID19 is FALSE
“To protect yourselves and loved ones from #COVID19 please adhere to guidance from public health authorities and avoid the spread of false information.”
This comes days after the agency advised people to hold a lighted candle over their face while wearing a face mask. If the light goes off after they blow air with the face mask on, it means the face mask is not reliable enough to protect against COVID-19.
Stay safe because COVID19 can kill if not prevented.
