Upon being afraid of his son having a bad name, a 45 year old man has left many in awe after he changed his 9 year old son’s name from Buhari to Rabiu Kwankwaso
In what appears to be a hilarious report, the 45 year old father identified as Salisu Matagwa who is based in Kumbiya-kumbiya quarters, an area in Gombe state had assembled his family and friends to perform the religious rites, to change the name of one of his children
It was learnt that in a bid to make the change of name real and acceptable in accordance with Islamic injunction, Salisu Matagwa slaughtered a ram and organized a feast attended by his relatives, friends and neighbours to saying that the decision became necessary in order to save his son from embarrassment, humiliation and attacks by members of the public who thought that he was named after President Mohammadu Buhari.
Speaking to Tribune Online in Gombe via a telephone conversation, Salisu Matagwa revealed that the boy was initially named Buhari in honour of one time Speaker of the House of Reps who was disgraced out office, Salisu Buhari, however, the name had brought nothing but discomfort as qyite a large number of people assume and mistake it for President Muhammadu Buhari’s namesake
According to him, residents in the state upon thinking he was named after the current President of Nigeria have since taken to address him as “General Buhari”
Taking the opportunity to express his displeasure with the performance of the President Muhammadu Buhari, he revealed that the president is losing popularity in the area on a daily basis, due to what he described as poor performance and unfavourable policies, which have inflicted hardship on the masses. According to Salisu, it is the president’s fault that some critics of the government taunt and mock his son with the name”General Buhari”
In his words;If people don’t have good view of President Muhammau Buhari now, I deemed it necessary to change the name of my boy from Buhari to Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is a more popular and reputable in the country, I love him and I am one of his ardent supporters”.
” Kwankwaso never knew me. He has not given me any money to rename my child after him. It is my discretion. So nobody should suggest that I am sponsored by Kwankwaso to change my son’s name.
“I have an occupation from which I earn a living. Therefore I am not looking for money from any politician. I only cherish Kwankwaso in view of his integrity”.
