The first batch of Nigerians to be evacuated from South Africa have been spotted leaving the Nigerian Consulate for the airport.
The Nigerians were spotted entering a bus in preparation to leave South Africa where they suffered xenophobic attacks.
It was confirmed on Monday by Abike Dabiri-Erewa that 640 Nigerians had signed to be evacuated from South Africa.
320 are expected to arrive Nigeria on Wednesday with another batch to follow on Thursday.
We reported earlier that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “The Air peace aircraft which was scheduled to take off at 9. a.m local time was delayed due to the fact that checking in and clearance procedures by immigration are very very slow.
“There are complaints of system failure and out of the 313 confirmed for first batch of evacuation today, only 84 are cleared so far.
“The more the Aircraft waits for the passengers, the higher the amount the Aircraft will pay for Parking.
