Candidates seeking admission into the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, have been advised to beware of unscrupulous elements defrauding unsuspecting people.
This is following reports that about 50 candidates seeking admission into the university have been duped of their money.
Confirming the development, Head of the Media and Protocol Department of the university, Mr Adegbenro Adebanjo, stated that the University has been made aware of the activities of the criminals defrauding candidates.
He said, “The institution had been receiving reports in the last few days about some admission-seekers falling prey to the activities of the fraudsters claiming to be officials of the university.
“These impostors through text messages and posts on the social media, claim to have the ability and connections to manipulate results of post-UTME tests for any candidate interested in gaining admission into FUTA.
“Also, these fraudsters ask candidates through various social media platforms and other channels to call some phone numbers and pay huge amount of money into private accounts to facilitate admission.
“This is nothing but a scam by these fraudsters. We are cautioning the general public to be wary of these scammers who want to extort money from unsuspecting candidates and their parents and guardians.”
