Soldier who raped Ondo undergraduate finally gets court jugdment (photos)

33 year old Lance Corporal Sunday Awolola, the soldier who made headlines a few days ago for raping a 300-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, in Ondo State, will receive a court judgment anytime from now.

He is presently being arraigned at the Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital, after being brought into the court premises by the officers of Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force around 9:30am Wednesday.

He is being charged for having committed a rape which is contrary to section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the the criminal code cap 37 vol. Laws of the Ondo state of Nigeria.

PUNCH Newspaper reports that the victim, a 300-level student of the Department of Religous and African Studies of the university, was allegedly gang-raped by soldiers attached to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the army, inside a shed at the checkpoint, while the student was returning from the school.

It was earlier reported that the student was gang-raped but Army investigation revealed that only one of the soldiers committed the offence.
