The Nigerian Police Force have opened up on why they barricaded the National Stadium to prevent members of the Revolution Now from protesting.
The protest which is spearheaded by Omoyele Sowore, who is currently detained by DSS, saw Revolution Now members converge at the National Stadium in Surulere Lagos to press demands for good governance.
However, the protest was disrupted by security operatives who threw tear gas and canisters and even fired shots to disperse them.
According to the Area Commander, Area C, ACP Tijani Fatai, who spoke to newsmen, the security operatives where at the stadium to prevent the protest which they say is unlawful and not permitted.
The DCP, Operations in Lagos State command, Mr Mohammed Ali, revealed that the protesters failed to obtain necessary permit to carry out the protest.
“Their planned protest is unlawful. They did not obtain permission for the protest. If they say they have the permission, let them show it.
“Anyone that foment trouble will be dealt with according to the law,“ Ali said.
