Manchester United player, Chris Smalling has called for a stop to the Amazon rainforest fire which has been raging on for weeks now.
Amazon rainforest is said to be the source of 20% of the Earth’s oxygen and also hone to many animals and humans who are currently being displaced by the fire.
Tweeting for help to stop the fire, Chris Smalling wrote:
“We have to start looking after our planet…The Amazon, the largest rainforest in the world and a vital carbon store providing 20% of our oxygen, is home to near 3 million species of plants and animals, as well as 1 million indigenous people…
“The leading cause of the Amazon’s deforestation is cattle ranching and wild fires are deliberately started in an effort to support this. Between Jan and Aug, Inpe detected 74,000 of them! ‼️ Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse emissions…
“…more than the combined exhaust from all transportation and the fires alone release huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. The Amazon rainforest slows down the pace of Global Warming and it’s been on fire for over 2 whole weeks…!!
