A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has distanced himself from campaigners calling for his presidency come 2023.
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, is highly touted to takeover from President Muhammadu Buhari whose second term ends in 2023.
Since the APC emerged successful in the 2019 presidential election, many have started politicking ahead of 2023. Different campaign groups have emerged with many of them already making flyers to show support for Tinubu.
However, a statement issued by his spokesman Tunde Rahman sees Tinubu dissociating himself from such groups.
The statement reads in part:
“We have seen pictures of face caps, T shirts, shirts and even leaflets with Bola Tinubu 2023 embossed on them purportedly by a faceless group which christened itself ‘Asiwaju Reloaded Ambassadors’ Nigeria’. Neither the group nor its souvenirs are known to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
“We hereby, through this medium, categorically deny any knowledge of the group and dissociate Asiwaju Tinubu from the group’s unsolicited and unwarranted materials,” the statement read.
