Eid-al-fitr is the Muslim’s celebration for fasting in the month of Ramadan.
The word is coined from two Arabic words “Eid” (celebration) and Iftar ( The food eaten at sunset during Ramadan) simply put Eid-al-fitir is the festival for breaking of fast.
The celebration which comes a day after Ramadan is full of merriment among family members and friends.
Although the celebration comes after Ramadan but then it is strictly based on the sighting of the moon, the moon has to be sighted before Ramadan can be started and the moon has to be sighted to mark the end of Ramadan which automatically marks the beginning of Eid-al-fitir.
There are confusions as to whether Ramadan is 29/30, it’s however simple logic, there are three conditions attached to it especially when the moon isn’t sighted on time.
- If shaban the month before Ramadan is 30,Ramadan would be 29 and Eid would be the next day.
- If shaban is 29, Ramadan would have to be 30 and Eid would be celebrated the next day.
- However if shaban is 30, Ramadan is 29 and the moon wasn’t sighted Ramadan should be made 30 and Eid should be the next day.
For this 2019, Shaban was not complete, we had 29 days, Ramadan automatically becomes 30, however if the moon is sighted today which is Day 29 of Ramadan tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4 would be Eid-al-fitir.
