Alexis Sanchez has scored his first goal in five months in a Copa America game against Japan.
Chile kicked off their Copa America defence by beating Japan 4-0, and the Manchester United forward ended his five months goal drought.
A stunning headed by Erick Pulgar gave the 2015 and 2016 Copa America champions the lead in the first half.
The lead was doubled in the 54th minute by Eduardo Vargas who continued his amazing consistency for country.
Alexis Sanchez made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute and celebrated by punching the air in delight after suffering a horrible season at Manchester United.
His effort in the game didn’t stop there. Few minutes later, he laid a pass for Vargas to net again thereby ending the game 4-0.
Speaking after the game, Alexis Sanchez said:
For six weeks I felt worse than I ever have before,’ he told reporters. ‘I struggled in the first half as I felt stifled but in the second half I was more relaxed and played with more freedom and excitement.’
Speaking about the Chilean team’s improvement, he said:
‘I think we have improved as a team since 2015 in defending and getting on the attack quickly,’ he added.
‘We’ve won a very difficult game and now we have to think about our next one.’
