After the outcry over the high rate of suicide by sniper, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), is considering modifying the container of popular insecticide.
The Director General of the agency, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, made the disclosure during NAFDAC’s commemoration of World Food Safety Day.
According to her, sniper containers could now be made very difficult to open, or sniper may be totally turned into a spray rather than the liquid contents it is known for.
It would be recalled that few weeks ago, a father of three, Mr Samuel Sunday, allegedly poisoned his three children with sniper.
His arrest was announced by Mr Aminu Saleh, Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa. According to NAN, The police commissioner told newsmen at the crime scene in Bayelsa that two of the children died after drinking sniper, while the third one survived.
The surviving son told newsmen that their father and his brother gave them the sniper to drink.
“Our father and his brother tied three of us and gave us sniper to drink.“I was told that my brothers are dead, and that I am the only one that survived,” the boy said in tears on his hospital bed.
