Zainab Bagudu, the First Lady of Kebbi State, has reacted to claims by Justice Asabe Karatu that she was refused to be confirmed as Chief Justice of the State because she’s Christian.
In a statement issued, Zainab Bagudu gave reasons for the refusal by the Kebbi State House of Assembly to confirm Asabe Karatu as Chief Justice of the State.
She wrote:
“JUSTICE ASABE KARATU
As a female born to parents who both belong to the legal profession, I loudly celebrated the rise of Justice Asabe Karatu as the first female Chief Justice of Kebbi state. More so, I attended university with her daughter. Now, I totally condemn her selfish attempt to hang on to position instead of retiring honorably.
Her allegations have brought about undeserved insults and criticism on my husband His Excellency Gov Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and others. Sadly, that is one of the burdens of leadership.
It is worrisome that as a Nation, we allow religion to quickly divide us rather than use reason to search for reasons to avoid conflict.
The statement below will not clear every mind, but it is necessary to set the records straight and we owe it to our children to always do what is right. Most of all, We should ALWAYS try to be bigger than our personal ambition. – Dr ZSB“.
