How Gerrard is preventing Lampard from becoming Chelsea manager

Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard appears to be the obstacle preventing Chelsea from welcoming Frank Lampard as their new manager.

Chelsea are seriously looking for a replacement for Maurizio Sarri who left few days ago to join Juventus.

Their first choice is the club’s former midfielder and all-time top goal scorer, Frank Lampard, who currently manages Championship side, Derby County.

The only obstacle preventing their bid from going through is Derby County’s inability to land Steven Gerrard as Lampard’s replacement. This is all due to Gerrard insisting on remaining as Rangers manager.

Speaking to Sky News on Monday about a possible transfer to Derby County, Gerrard said:

Redknapp predicts where Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool will finish next season

“Yes I’m aware of it but there’s nothing to say on it.

“I’m very happy here, it’s a privilege to be the Rangers manager. My focus is on the up and coming season.

“It’s very similar to when there’s noise around players. I ask the players to stay focused on the job and that is what I will continue to do. There is nothing really to add to that.”

When asked to reaffirm his commitment to Rangers, the former Liverpool captain said: “Do I have to do that for the sake of you?

“Nothing has changed in my mind. I was very lucky and appreciative of the opportunity I got 12 months ago.
