Kayode Fayemi has been confirmed as as the governor of Ekiti state following a Supreme Court judgment which dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Kolapo Olusola-Eleka challenging.
The suit by Olusola-Eleka was filed to challenge Fayemi’s victory in the July 14th 2018 governorship election.
The judgment delivered by a five-man panel led by Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, unanimously held that the appeal challenging the outcome of the poll lacked merit.
Olusola-Eleka who polled 178,121 votes had approached the Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal to declare him winner over Fayemi who polled 197,459 and was declared winner by INEC.
His petition was dismissed by the tribunal in January this year and affirmed Fayemi winner of the election. He later took the case to the Court of Appeal where he lost again with Justice Adah dismissing it for lacking of merit.
