BREAKING: School children feared dead as building collapses in Lagos Island

Many pupils are feared dead after a school building collapsed with them inside. The school located in Ita Faji, Lagos Island in Lagos state, collapsed this morning.

The three storey building which has the school on the last floor is also a residential building with several apartments.

Over 100 pupils are said to be feared dead.

Rescue operations are currently ongoing with Parents at the scene weeping and calling out the names of their children.

A resident of the area, Prince Adams, who alerted our correspondent to the incident on the telephone, said no fewer than 10 pupils had been removed from the rubble so far. Some of them have been rushed to the General Hospital.

“It is terrible. Parents are crying. I can’t withstand the gorry sight,” he added.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Kehinde Adebayo, confirmed the collapse, adding that emergency officials were already on ground.

GTBANK MASTERS CUP SEASON 8 ENTERS QUARTER FINALS STAGE

On Wednesday, the female teams will again set the ball rolling as Corona Secondary School, Agbara will face Atlantic Hall, Epe, and later, in the Male category, Kings College, Lagos will compete with Jubril Martins Memorial Grammar School, Iponri.
