Nigerians jubilate as Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lionheart’ starts streaming on Netflix

Lionheart, Genevieve Nnaji’s first directorial debut, which stars Pete Edochie, Genevieve Nnaji herself, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osofia and a kick-off acting appearance by Peter Okoye of P-Square is now streaming on Netflix.

Following the drama that followed its screening on Nigerian cinema houses, many fans of the actress decided to patiently wait till it started streaming on Netflix last night.

Shortly after the premiere of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival, the 95 minutes masterpiece produced by Chinny Onwugbenu was secured by Netflix; making it the first original Nigerian movie to be acquired by the American content provider.

Since the acquisition of Lionheart, Netflix has become more interested in African film and television, with plans to order original series from the continent this year.
