One Sunday Umaru, a former soldier dismissed from service, has now been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of his girlfriend.

According to the reports, the 34-year-old was accused and arraigned in court for hacking his girlfriend to death over a text message.

Justice S.P. Gang who presided over the case at a High Court sitting in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, sentenced Umaru after finding him guilty of the murder of Charity Thomas on January 23, 2016.

Handing down the judgement, Gang said that Umaru “mercilessly took the life of Charity Thomas in cold blood” and would face the full wrath of the law.

“This sentence is mandatory; the law states that any person convicted of murder shall be punished with death by hanging.

“The sentence of this court upon you is that you, Sunday Umaru, will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul,” Gang stated.
