Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has revealed what he told his team at half time against Chelsea that made them bounce back.
A 21st minute header from Antonio Rudiger gave Chelsea the lead at Stamford Bridge but United came back in the second half and took the lead with two goals from Anthony Martial.
An injury time equalizer however ensured Chelsea maintained their unbeaten run in the season.
Speaking to Skysports, Mourinho said,
“My message [at half time] was that against Newcastle that we needed a huge improvement to get back into the game but today we don’t need huge improvement we just needed little details.
“We were in the game playing well and in control we just needed to be a little bit more aggressive in the last third, a bit more brave with the players feeling more freedom to express themselves to go in search of the goals.
” I told the players at half time I was thinking about winning this game in the second half. The boys were brilliant but in this moment we are frustrated.”
Mourinho however defended Paul Pogba after his poor marking from a corner led to a Chelsea goal.
“Players make mistakes and I prefer to focus on the global performance,” Mourinho said when asked about Pogba’s role in Chelsea’s first goal.
“My midfield was very good. Paul was good, [Nemanja] Matic was good, [Juan] Mata was good, Ander Herrera was also in the game.
“The three attacking players work a lot – Mata, [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford. The team did a fantastic work, so I will try to focus on the level of the performance and forget the bad result. I think we deserve much more than this result but this is what it is.”
