Saturday flood causes Lekki residents to lose valuables

Residents in parts of Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos have lamented the loss of valuable property caused by Saturday’s torrential rainfall and an ensuing flood.

According to the residents, some of the affected areas include Kajola, Majek first-gate, Lakowe, Eleko, Oribanwa and Awoyaya all after Sangotedo, Ajah.

Speaking with News Agency of Nigeria, the residents stated that the lack of proper drainage is the bane of commercial activities and comfortable living in the area.

Mr Luqman Balogun, a member of the Community Development Association, in Ibeju-Lekki, said, “We can neither go to the office nor stay at home comfortably now as many of our valuables are already destroyed by a flood. I never believed we could be sacked by flood because we live in a predominantly sandy environment, due to our proximity to the ocean. What I have observed now is that there are no working drainage channels in Ibeju-Lekki, as we have in other parts of Lagos State”
