Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 3-0 at Old-Trafford courtesy of Lucas Moura’s brace and Harry Kane’s headed goal.
Manchester United started the game with intent and purpose but Lukaku was guilty of some missed chances.
Tottenham didn’t really create much in the first half.
The first half ended 0-0, Spurs improved after the restart showing more urgency and verve.
Harry Kane opened the floodgate of goals with a glancing header in the 50th minute.
Lucas Moura added the second in the 52nd minute before the Brazilian put the icing on the cake in the 84th minute to condemn Manchester United to their biggest home loss under Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino described the victory as massive
“It is a massive, massive victory. It can provide us very good confidence and trust with how we are working. We know the end of the season is too far away, we need to keep pushing, trying to be consistent. Let’s keep calm and working hard is the most important thing.
Jose Mourinho applauded the Manchester United supporters after the match and praised his players effort in the defeat.
“The team was playing to change the result, creating enough for that. I’m not saying with one goal at 2-0 down we would win but we were very much in the game and only 3-0 smashed the mentality of the team.
“Even at 3-0 I saw Luke Shaw with cramp and staying in the game to the last second with that pride the fans applaud.
“We worked all week and from the tactical point of view we didn’t lose, but we lost the game.
“But all our fans don’t read papers, all our fans don’t watch television, all our fans are more intelligent than that – they answered in an absolutely amazing way.
“I don’t think it’s normal to lose a game at home and the supporters to react the way they did.”
Manchester United will visit Burnley at the Turf Moor stadium in their next EPL matchd.Õþ
