After the official commissioning of the Abuja Metro light rail, President Muhamamdu Buhari, was pictured as he took a guided tour at Idu Metro Station and Airport Metro Station.
The Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmaad, has taken to his verified Twitter page to share some photos of the president and other government officials taking a ride inside the newly launched Abuja light rail.
“After the official commissioning of the #AbujaMetro, President @MBuhari is now taking a guided tour. We will be going to Idu Metro Station and Airport Metro Station,” Bashir captioned the photos.
The President commissioned the recently-completed first phase of the Abuja light rail project as he flagged-off the railway services signalling the commencement of operations of the long-awaited rail services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
An earlier statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to FCT Minister, Cosmas Uzodinma, stated that the 45.245kmstandard guage rail line from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the Abuja Metro Station is the first of its kind in West Africa.
According to the statement, the project had been in the works for over 11 years. He said the commissioning would mark formal commencement of rail service and the fulfillment of a long-awaited dream for a modern state-of-the-art mass transit system for the FCT.
