Popular British journalist and TV personality, Piers Morgan has insulted a Nigerian twitter user in pidgin English as they argued about the match between Nigeria and Argentina.
Piers Morgan disagreed with the VAR’s decision to award Nigeria a penalty kick after Leon Balogun was fouled in the box. According to him, the VAR had failed and there was no way the challenge by Mascherano on Balogun required a penalty because it was the Nigerian player who leaned in and dived.
Piers Morgan tweeted:
“VAR fails again. No way was that a penalty.. leaned in & dived.“
But a Nigerian felt he was being biased and called him out. The Nigerian by the name Emmanuel Babalola tweeted back at Piers:
“If it is England or Argentina ?? the VAR is correct right? But now it’s Nigeria ?? the VAR has failed. You are such a racist!“
In response, Piers said “Emmanuel, you dey craze.“
The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost the game against Argentina 2-1, a game in which they only needed a draw to ensure a place in the second round of the FIFA 2018 world cup in Russia. Lionel Messi opened scoring for Argentina in the first half which ended one nil. However, Nigeria bounced back from the spot with Victor Moses netting.
In the 86th minute, the Nigerian defense couldn’t hold the pressure from the Albeceleste’s attack as Marcos Rojo found the back of the net to secure a place for Argentina who will now be meeting France in the knock-out stage.
