Below is a post from an event organizer, Mofe Boyo, who spoke of how dancers in Nigeria are under-appreciated. She made this discovery after an event she organized for some dancers. According to her, record labels and brands need to sign dancers so as to enable events to be more lively.
Read her post below.
”After organizing this dance Challenge and workshop I can only say my interest in dancing grew exponentially. I knew dancers work a lot but I never knew they invest and work this much. They deserve to be highly recognized and rewarded like everybody else in the entertainment sector for their investment in themselves. Artiste are paid millions of Naira not just to have a producer and flex with the rest but to build a team which should consist of dancers too. Record companies and brands should consider signing them on. The events , stages and music videos where artistes perform will be gloomy and lifeless without these dancers and it is a profession for most of them not just a hobby. Kaffy shared this sentiment a few years ago, she said only few Nigerians appreciate dancers, Most of the others just see them as hobbyist.
Kaffy is highly regarded, but in my opinion, very under appreciated. Dance still remain a part of showbiz that has not properly developed unlike music, comedy, acting and the likes. I really want to see this sector grow, let us see how we can create opportunities and indulge our hardworking youths, We all know they are not #LazyNigerianYouths. We can make this a platform of success for so many people .”
