Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has reacted to President Buhari’s declaration of his ambition to seek a second term in office come 2019.
In a tweet on Monday, the former minister of Education and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls advocacy groups, wrote:
“Reading the Breaking News that our President will be seeking reelection in 2019, I remembered the story of the “Ejionu” masquerade.
“Our President had not yet recovered from his first journey and here he is UNLIKE the very wise Ejionu, seeking to embark on a second one. Hmmm.
“The nice part of the “Breaking News” is that it is good to formally know that it is directly to @NGRPresident @MBuhari that Nigerian citizens will shortly be handing the APC’s own #RedCardToAPCAndPDP in 2019.
“There was a masquerade which in a burst of Hubris left its own village & strayed into a neighboring town.
“The neighbors gave it the beating of a lifetime, it barely survived.
“Asked some months later if it would go again, it replied:
“I have not recovered from my 1st journey!”.
Other notable Nigerians who have reacted to the declaration by President Buhari include former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri.
Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration to contest for second term via Twitter where he announce that the President will fail in his bid to clinch power again in 2019.
He wrote:
“@MBuhari has declared his intention to seek for a fresh mandate. He should prepare himself for the biggest demystification in Nigeria’s history.A man whose legacy is nothing but blood, death, destruction, corruption, division, conflict, failure and carnage wants to run.He will FAIL!”
Reno Omokri also tweeted his opinion. He wrote:
”It is a good thing that it was @Elrufai who announced President @MBuhari’s second term because his chances of re-election is as tall as Elrufai. A man whose supporters can’t declare one thing he has initiated and completed has declared us all fools by this 2nd term declaration.
Since Buhari hasn’t initiated and completed even one project as #BuhariChallenge proves, I urge him to use 2019 election to redeem himself. Initiate and complete a free election and give Nigerians the opportunity to fulfill their desire to retire you from politics next February!
The man knew that his 2nd term declaration is unpopular, unpleasant and unpalatable to the vast majority of Nigerians which is why he ran away to London as soon as he announced the news. One would have thought he is contesting for @Theresa_May’s job the way he dashes to the UK”.
