Just reaching us now are reports that a University of Lagos (Unilag) final year student, Rasaq Akokia and a staff Akintunde Fadugba, were accidentally killed by hoodlums in Yaba.
Punch disclosed that the unfortunate incident took place on Opayemi street, Abule Ijesha, Yaba at about 11pm on Friday night, March 9.
Sadly, the deceased were hit by stray bullets. Late Akokia and Fadugba were killed by 6 hoodlums reportedly led by a drug dealer, who is known to the police.
The hoodlums stormed the community in that night on motorcycles and shot periodically into the air.
It was further revealed that Akokia was ill and was returning from the chemist where he went to purchase drugs when he was hit by the stray bullet.
While Fadugba was relaxing in front of a barber’s shop close to his home when the bullet hit him and reportedly died on the spot.
According to the police, SP Chike Oti disclosed that:
“There were four individuals who were known for negatively influencing children and youths in that community. They had issues with the community and they were chased away.
They regrouped and unleashed mayhem on the community, years after they were sent out. They killed a university worker and a student.”
Unilag’s spokesperson Taiwo Oloyede confirmed the death of the staff but revealed that she was not aware that a student was killed.
Oloyede said: “Fadugba was shot on Friday and we lost him. He was a senior non-teaching staff member of the Centre for Information and Technology System. He will be buried this week.
I am not sure we lost any student but I will confirm and get back to you.” Fadugba was a staff of the Centre for Information and Technology System in the institution.
