”My Bayelsa people please naa, We need to battle this madness!!!. Rape of minors on daily basis ? Reports reaching me now:
Just Yesterday. This 31 year old man who is currently in police custody raped this nine year old child.
This man might likely be let off the hook because the police there is no one to push the case for the poor family of the victim.
What’s even worse is that the child is physically damaged and needs urgent medical attention because of the brutal nature of the rape.
Should we continue to keep silent and allow evil to thrive????”
The raping of the 9 year old girl is coming barely a week after a 16 year old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her family doctor at the Federal Medical Center, Bida, Niger State.
The teenager identified as Fatima Yusuf was said to have lost her life after she gave birth to her baby. Prior to her death, she was raped repeatedly and impregnated by the doctor, Dr. Seyi, who treated her mother ,while she was admitted at the hospital for diabetes .
A family source quoted Fatima as telling the family that it all began on a day the doctor invited her to his room while her mother was asleep disclosing that the appalling act continued until Fatima’s mother was discharged from the hospital. The case became very serious attracting the intervention of the Emir of Bida, Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya.
During the course of interrogation at the Emir’s palace, the accused doctor was said to have admitted that he only hugged Fatima and rubbed his body against hers, but did not have any sexual intercourse with her.
Unfortunately, while awaiting the result of a paternity test, Fatima died on Monday, some time after she was delivered of a baby boy at the family house in Bida. Due to the recent development, the Niger State Child Rights Agency was said to have taken over the case.
The DG of the agency, Barrister Mariam Kolo, said if Dr. Seyi is found guilty, he will not escape the wrath of the law. Fatima, according to Kolo, died from intense depression because of the horrendous act the doctor committed against her.
When contacted, the management of the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, confirmed that a case of alleged sexual harassment was filed against one of its doctors.
