The Personal Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has given her opinion concerning the popular reality tv show, Big Brother Naija. She responded to numerous calls asking her to weild her powers to ensure the discontinuation of the show which many see as promoting imoorality. She brought to the attention of those making such demands that the show is adult rated and no one can be held responsible for kids watching the show, but parents whose kids watch the show. Her tweet below.
STOP ASKING ME TO FIX BIG BROTHER NAIJA. I DON’T HAVE SUCH POWERS. Big Brother is an adult programme. If your children are watching it, it’s your fault, not mine. Grow up & protect your children. It’s not also compulsory to watch. Use your remote control and change the channeI.
Since the 2017 edition, many have labelled the reality show as a tool used to glorify fornication, adultery and disrespect for marriage. One of the housemates at the ‘See Gobe’ edition, Gifty Powers, was said to be in a marriage while she was in the house. Thin Tall Tony was also a married man seen having an affair with Bisola in the house. This year’s edition, ‘Double Wahala’, also had its own married housemate, Dee One, who after he was evicted admitted to being married and that he and his wife had an agreement before he proceeded to the house.
The show also presents showers scenes where housemates bath totally unclad in front of not just the fellow housemates of opposite sex but also viewers at home ranging in millions. Just few days ago, newly evicted housemate, Princess, was shown baring her but while trying out her ‘gymnastic skills’. The viral video had many complaining about the high level of immorality the show presents. As if that clip was not enough, another surfaced of one of the housemates, Ahneeka masturbating. Video of Nina and Miracle having an early morning sex have also gone viral. These and more are probably why some quarters are yearning for the government to put a stop to the show or its airing.
