Nigerian singer and CEO of Alter Plate Records, Harrysong, has announced the signing of a new artiste to his record label. The artiste, Lami Phillips, becomes the first lady of the record label which Harrysong launched shortly after his controversial exit from Five Star Music, a labelled runned by Singer Kcee and his brother, E-money.
She was unveiled this morning by Harrysong via an Instagram post where he wrote:
“Welcome to the family=Welcome on board Queen @lamiphillipsworld @alterplatemusic to the world
I present to you the first lady of alterplate @lamiphillipsworld”
Lami, who is a mother of two, first debut in the Nigerian music scene in 2009 when she dropped her first album titled ‘Intuition. Her full names are Lami Phillips-Gbadamosi, and from her Instagram profile, she’s also an actress, though movies she’s starred in are not disclosed.
She was born in Chicago were she spent her early years before moving to Nigeria. She was influence by different genres most especially RnB, Jazz, Soul and some of the act she took interest in are Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, Tupac Shakur, Anita Baker, Sade, Kim Burell, Jill Scott, Otis and many more.
Lami started taking vocal lessons and joined the choir at her church (Jesus House) when she moved to the UK. At a certain point in her life, the talented singer decided to further her education and got a BA (Hons) from University of Kent and also a MA degree from the University of Nottingham. Not relenting, she decided to get another degree an Executive MBA from Pennsylvania State University in the United States.
With this new deal with Alter Plate, we hope she gets propelled to do well in the Nigerian music scene which appears to be tight and difficult to penetrate these days. She stands to compete with the likes of Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Simi, Niniola, Seyi Shay etc who are all unique musically.
