US Ignore Shittes, Sells Warplane, Weapons Of N181bn To Nigeria

Recall a Nigerian Shiite group, Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, wrote
to the United States government urging it not to sell weapons or any
military hardware to the Nigerian government? Well the US seems to have
ignored them and just sold weapons worth N181bn to Nigeria.

According to Reuters, the Headquarters of the United States Department
of Defence, the Pentagon, has informed the US Congress of the sale of 12
Super Tucano A-29 ground attack aircraft and weapons to Nigeria to
fight Boko Haram insurgency.

According to them, the Pentagon communicated the sale of the 12 ground
attack aircraft valued at $593m (N181bn) to the US Congress on Monday.

The report quoted Pentagon’s Defence Security Cooperation Agency as having made the announcement to the US legislature

Daniel’s Allegations Are Cocktail Of Lies That Lack Substance & Deserve No Attention, Kashamu To IGP

The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the Senate,
Buruji Kashamu, has written a petition to the Director General of the
Department of State Services, Mr. Lawan Daura, and the Inspector-General
of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to deny the allegation that he was
planning to kill a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

He said there was no way he could have plotted to kill Daniel, who he said was unable to stop his election in 2015.

A copy of the petition, which was written on August 25 and received by the IGP and the DSS on August 28, was obtained by one of Punch correspondents in Abuja on Monday.

Kasahmu was replying to an earlier petition sent to the two heads of
security agencies on Friday by the former governor, where he alleged
that the senator allegedly sent assassins to kill him.

Daniel, who alleged that the plot was to kill him at his Maitama
Residence in Abuja, said that the assassins and their sponsor were not
aware that he had left Abuja.

However, Kashamu in his defence, described Daniel’s petition as lies and
urged the DSS and the IGP to discountenance the former governor’s
claim.

He said, “As for me, I have no interest in Daniel’s death or that of any
human being. If I engaged him as a sitting governor with tact and
intelligence, why would I want to attack or assassinate him now?

“This was a man who could not stop my election in 2015 despite the
Presidential election funds. He worked against me and the PDP at the
poll. Yet, we triumphed.

“The almighty Allah who has always made me to triumph over my
adversaries is on the throne and He will continue to deliver me from
their evil plots and give me resounding victory and good success over
and above them.

“In the light of the above, I wish to urge you to use your good offices to dissect the issues and claims.

“I have no doubt that if the issues are critically examined, his
petition would be discountenanced as a cocktail of lies, lacking in
substance and not deserving of any attention whatsoever.

“The police, as a responsible institution, should not allow anyone to
manipulate it to settle political scores, no matter the colouration.”

I Planned My Kidnap To Raise Funds For My Parents’ Funeral -Pastor’s Wife

A-32-year-old Pastor’s wife of an undisclosed church located in Nsit
Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State identified as Mrs.
Victoria Elijah Ndu has been arrested for planning her kidnap.

Vanguard
gathered that Mrs. Ndu was first rescued in Awo Omamma in Imo state
last Monday, August 24 by men of the anti-kidnapping squad from the
state Police Command in Ikot Akpan-Abia and arrested the same day after
an investigation showed that she actually planned her kidnapping to get
some money from her church members. It was learned that they had placed
N3m ransom for her (Victoria) release.

It was gathered that Victoria’s brother, Okon Akang had run to the
village from Imo State crying over his sister’s alleged kidnap when the
sister was actually hiding in his house in Imo state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu told newsmen
yesterday at Ikot Akpan-Abia that the suspects were rescued and arrested
same day following interrogation by men of the anti-kidnapping unit
where Mrs. Victoria confessed to masterminding the crime.

Ikechukwu said: “Victoria’s husband had on August 16 reported to the
Divisional Police Headquarters in Nsit Atai that his wife had been
kidnapped. He told the police that the wife told him she was going to
the market that day.

But Nsit Atai lacked the jurisdiction to handle kidnap matter; the case
was transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation
Department (SCIID). “They traced the calls used by contacting the church
members and demanding for N3 million ransom to Awo Omamma in Imo state.

That was how men of the anti-kidnapping unit swung into action, tracked
down the suspects and rescued them. “It was while Victoria Ndu was
being interrogated at the anti- Kidnapping unit that she confessed that
she actually masterminded her own kidnap.

That was how she and her brother were arrested. The brother was arrested because both of them conspired to fake the crime.

“What you are seeing here today is to serve as a deterrent to people who may be planning to go into this kind of crime.

Police in Akwa Ibom is doing everything possible to make sure that
crime in the state is reduced to the barest minimum “The Commissioner of
Police Mr. Zubairu Muazu, therefore, appeals to members of the public
to provide useful information that will help us to achieve that and
serve them better.”

The suspects, during an interview, admitted to the crime even as both
pleaded to be forgiven attributing their action to lack of money to
conduct burial ceremony for their late parents.

Victoria, who lamented her suffering after 10years of marriage without a
child said: “We are orphans from a poor background. I only did what I
did to help my family bury our parents.

Our father died in 2008 but we did not conduct any burial ceremony for
him. In April this year, our mother died too and since then she has not
been buried because of no money.

We wanted to conduct burial for both of them.” She, however, admitted
initially placing N3million ransom on herself but reduced the amount to
N1million during the negotiations.

Boko Haram: Escapee Recounts Orderal In Sambisa Forest

A 25-year- old housewife and mother of five, Aisha Bukar yesterday
recounted her ordeal in the hands of Boko-Haram insurgents, saying she,
her husband, mother-in-law and children, fed on ‘weeds’ to survive.

Mrs. Bukar, one of the captives of the insurgents, escaped from their
enclave after a military war plane bombed their hideout in Sambisa
Forest recently.

She told News Agency of Nigeria that she escaped from the camp with her husband, mother in-law and the five children.

She said members of her family were incarcerated for about three years by the insurgents in the Sambisa Forest.

She recalled that the insurgents abducted them while working in a farm
at Talala, a village in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno.

Mrs. Bukar added that they had denied them food and drugs, following her husband’s refusal to fight for their group.

She said: “We were working in the farm when the insurgents abducted me,
my husband, children and mother in-law. They took us deep into Sambisa
Forest, where we stayed for about three years.

“They asked my husband to take up arms and fight for them, a request he
declined; they became infuriated and labeled him as stubborn; to break
his will, they denied us food and drugs.

“We barely survived on leaves and weeds; we also relied on herbs when
sick; they distributed food only to their fighters and those who submit
to their demands.”

Mrs. Bukar lamented that the insurgents meted out inhuman treatments and abuses on women and children under their captivity.

The escapee revealed that the insurgents compelled captives, including
women and children, to be attending preaching and lecture sessions.

She said: “My husband was flogged on many occasions over his persistent
absenteeism at the lecture sessions. His back is covered with ugly scars
of injuries sustained from merciless beating by the insurgents.”
