A couple of days ago, I got to watch a newly released movie, Child Not Bride which features Jide Kosoko and Liz Benson and I was glad….you know that Joy you get to have when you eventually watch an impressive movie after seeing several dumb ones…yup, that’s how i felt after the movie ended.
Movie Description: A young girl is forced into an arranged marriage
without her consent. This put her through a whole lot and her parents
live to regret the drastic decision they have made.
STARRING
Liz Benson, Prince Jide Kosoko, Patience Oseni, Andy Ike, Abdul Mohammed, Honour Felix, Vera Kalu
The One hours, 14 minutes movie preaches against child marriage.
In Northern Nigeria, 43% of girls are married off before their 18th birthday. 17% are married before they turn 15.
The prevalence of child marriage varies widely from one region to
another, with figures as high as 76% in the North West region and as low
as 10% in the South East.
While data shows a 9% decline in the prevalence of child marriage
since 2003, action is needed to prevent thousands of girls from being
married in the coming years.
Child Not Bride was quite emotional and straight to the point.
There were no irrelevant scenes and all the characters especially Liz Benson (the victim’s mother) and Jide Kosoko (the Alhaji) interpreted their roles well.
Everyone needs to watch Child Not Bride especially Northern parents.
Money is not everything!
