This is my wish!
The news we hear these days can make the hearts to seize pounding.
The élite are seen and heard canvassing for devaluation of naira to the extent that most people have lost its meaning.
How does devaluation of naira help the bartered economy.
Coupled with this, is what is being touted that there must be subsidy removal on petrol as from January 2016, if l heard well.
Please, before you crucify me, listen.
I am a bit educated but not to the extent of the economics of the economy.
I heard this speech, made as title above from a woman l know and respected.
l asked her the reason for taking that stand. Her explanations got me thinking.
Truly
as at Friday, the 18th December,2015, the dollar had risen to #280. And
the discussants on our media platforms are crying out issuing
different antidotes to revamp the economy.
One man said something.
That Nigerians should be sensitized into using Made-in-Nigeria products
as this will save us a lot of foreign reserve we spend running after
things from abroad.
True talk so it seems. One way out of many.
But who will sensitize Nigerians? Except our pockets!
Then, l saw the light. If and when dollar begins to rise and Naira begins to fall, these will happen.
1.
The poor and the medium level classes will be forced, not by any
government policy,to retrace their focus from the so called imported
goods.
Now, a pair of imported male shoes start from #25000. This was some months back when a dollar was #200 or a little less.
Imagine its cost if a dollar is #1000.
It therefore means the cheapest imported shoes will be #100000.
How many salaried class can afford sx such especially when salaries stand still or do not come in handy?
I say let a dollar be #1000.
I want to believe this regime is for change.
2.If
most people cannot afford this, the rich ,who could go abroad to get
the imported items for “us” will now look for market for their goods.
And it will be among themselves.
And l know one thing; any goods that cannot go round the majority cannot be said to be in market in the present day Nigeria.
Let me do some flashbacks.
I
was told that about 20 or more years ago, popular brands of milk were
sold in tins whether powdered or liquid. Only the rich could afford it.
But
when a newly introduced brand entered the market in small sachets,it
opened the way to the others. The others started making their inroads
into the homes of almost all Nigerians.
There is no one who cannot afford the#10 sachet milk today.
If imported cornflakes becomes #10000,leave that. We will go after our Nigerian cornflakes or other food in its place.
3. The economics of paying foreign partners will tell on the organization.
Maintain it, let Naira nosedive.
Not by government but by the game of economics.
I tell you, it will not be long that the CHANGE we clamored for will reposition itself.
Made
in Nigeria goods will now take front seats. From there, any
manufacturing company that cannot satisfy her customers will have her
self to blame
Above this, those who are abroad will be happy? For the 100$ they send here, they will get #100000.
Nigeria, move on in majesty. Let things begin to take shape in you!
