KFB Movie! ‘Confusion Na wa’ confused me…I don’t know how to rate it!
“Things
just happen. Things just don’t happen for a
reason.” On first appearance, people are just being
people and living their life in a typical Nigerian city.
There is no grand plot, no set pieces and no
theatrical build-ups; it is just business as usual and
within a space of 24 hours, people meet and things
really “just happen”. Quote from ‘Confusion Na Wa’
So I finally saw the movie
award winning ‘Confusion na wa’ movie and truth be told, I don’t know how to rate it.
I did not really like it (it is not a
movie I would want to watch again but the storyline was brilliant!
The story was
so smart and confusing…
It is not the regular Nigerian movie
storyline of boy meeting girl, chases girl and marry girl, lol – instead it’d make you think! It made the so-called street rats
look far more intelligent than the seemingly successful people.
Story:
Set in a Nigerian city Confusion Na Wa is a dark comedy
about a group of strangers whose fates become intertwined over the course of 24
hours. At the heart of everything is a phone found by two opportunist wasters
Charles and Chichi (Ali Nuhu and OC Ukeje) who, having read through its contents, decide to blackmail
the owner Emeka (Ramsey Nuoah).
Little do they realize that their misdemeanors have set in
motion a chain of events that will lead to their own downfall.
Directed By: Kenneth Gyang
Written By: Tom Rowlands-Rees
Stars: O.C Ukeje, Gold Ikponmwosa, Ali Nuhu, Ramsey Noauh, Tony Goodman
Thumbs up:
The picture quality was perfect, the sound was good too. Ali
Nuhu’s character Bello was hilarious. Ramsey Noauh’s acting was perfect too (been crushing on him since I was ten years old).
Thumbs down:
OC tried but he didn’t exactly interpret his role well enough…he was supposed speak pidgin throughout the movie but several times he forgot himself and switched to English.
The ladies in the movie, phew, I wonder where the movie producer got them from, their acting was terrible – especially the lady that
played Ramsey’s wife, she needs to undergo some serious acting training if she is to feature in any movie again.
Sometimes, there were no translations given such as the scene where Emeka (Ramsey
Nouah) and his wife were speaking in Igbo, I didn’t understand what they were saying.
Furthermore, the fighting scene with O.C. Ukeje could also have been better choreographed with less reliance on sound effects.
Oh by the way, it had too many characters.
Honestly I don’t know how to rate it, and that’s probably because of how the movie started – we were told the end from the very first scene, the other scenes revolved around how the first scene came to be! Would have preferred a situation where the
tragic end of the movie was all let out in the end rather than informing
us right from the beginning and then waiting for almost the next two
hours to see how it happens.
You can watch the movie trailer HERE.
P.S Confusion Na Wa
was winner of the ‘Best Picture’ category at the 2013 African Movie Academy
Awards.
