KFB Movie! Need a very ‘intriguing’ movie for the weekend, watch Moses Inwang’s “TORN’
We finally got to watch the 2013 hit movie Torn…wow, from the very first scene, we were captivated and blown away! You can watch the movie trailer (HERE)
Genre: Psychological thriller
Starring: Ireti Doyle, Joseph Benjamin, Monalisa Chinda, Bimbo Manuel
Director: Moses ‘Sneeze’ Inwang
a psychological thriller which follows the lives of childhood best
friends Ovu (Ireti Doyle) and Nana (Monalisa Chinda). Their relationship
is threatened and in the middle is Olumide (Jospeh Benjamin). To solve
the mystery – of who is married
to Olumide – is a psychotherapist played by Bimbo Manuel.
Nana played by Monalisa Chinda gets a phone call from an
unexpected friend who is in town and she asks them to meet in the
parking lot of Spar supermarket. In the parking lot we see a woman
trying to disguise but holding a big shinning knife and we know she
means business.
A “heroic” policeman intervenes and Ovo (Iretiola
Doyle) the” murderer want to be” is stopped and arrested. Why would she
want to kill her best friend? That is for you to find out as we solve
the mystery behind the film “Torn”.
The film shines in its unpredictability. The acting is top class. Great job!
The story stars Joseph Benjamin (Olumide) who has been happily married
to Nana (Monalisa Chinda) and loves his wife and has no particular problems since the day
he met her at the university.
When Nana’s husband Olumide was out of town
in Abuja, he is invited by Ovo (Ireti Doyle) for a home cooked meal as suggested by
Nana. Somehow, Olumide and Ovo
are thrown together in a couple of situations and they discover they
like each other. She finds him willing to be seduced, and what did they
do?
At the police station a Psychotherapist played by Bimbo Manuel (who sometimes behaves more like a police detective than a doctor) is hired to interrogate Ovo and hoping to get to the bottom of the murder plot.
In a series of flashbacks properly done, we could travel back in time to the college years of Ovo, Nana and Olumide.
They were best friends and now Ovo claims her best friend Nana took her husband Olumide played by Joseph Benjamin and she deserves to die.
Olumide has made it clear that he’s a happily married man and that he sees their meeting as a friendly and nothing more than that. It ends up as two adults who saw an opportunity and took advantage of it, but Ovo doesn’t see it that way. The moment sex is over for her, capture begins, and she starts a series of demands on Olumide’s time and attention. She even gets Olumide to marry her under the pretext of renting an apartment.
Desperate to keep his secret and preserve his happy marriage, Olumide tries to reason with her, threaten her and even hide from her, but she is implacable. When Olumide tells her to get lost, she grows pathological. Ovo shows up at the couple’s home in the middle of the night Because the good things in the movie including the performances are so very good, it’s a shame that the film’s potential for greatness was so blatantly compromised when Monalisa and Joseph are not allowed to really display their talents. I say they should have let Joe be Joe.
“Torn” was produced by Moses Inwang and it is one of the best police investigative and psychological thriller we have seen to date coming out of Nollywood. Iretiola Doyle’s character as Ovo was convincing….Ireti played this crazy role well, wow, she delivered point blank.
Technically speaking, the picture, audio and editing quality is good.
Thumbs down:
Some part of the movie especially the moment of truth between Olumide, Ovo and Nana feels unfinished.
There was no chemistry between Joseph Benjamin and Ireti Doyle…using Nse Ikpe Etim or Rita Dominic would have made more sense! Also, the way the movie ended wasn’t too great. #okbye
