The *OMG* in the headline is not the usual *OMG* for something mind blowing, it is for a sorry situation as this.
Reggae Legend Majek Fashek is suffering from Schizophrenia, his doctors say. They have further said that his condition is getting really bad.
According to some blogs, people around his neighborhood in Gowon Estate Ipaja now avoid him like a plague. He
allegedly walks around talking to himself and sometimes sits at a bus stop around
his area playing his guitar while little kids make fun of him.
To
stop him from roaming around, and maybe hurting himself, sometimes
people who care for him chain him at his Ipaja home, especially when he
gets really out of control.
I actually started suspecting that his
case was getting worse when NET published a recent interview about him.
If you actually read the interview, you would see from his (majek)
replies that he is not normal.
For instance, when asked where he
vanished to (there was a time he reportedly went missing for weeks in January)
Majek responded with “I was in heaven. I went to see Fela Anikulapo Kuti in heaven. I was in
heaven the whole time they were looking for me. Fela was not happy with
me. He told me that some people want to kill Femi (Kuti). He said that
Femi is his heir and that there are some elements that are trying to
assassinate him. He told me that he will hold me responsible if anything
should happen to Femi. He even gave me this ring I’m wearing”
Seriously, would a sane
person talk like that! Many of such instances…
It’s so sad that such a great man now lives a wretched life.
