Whats up with everybody and the Azonto dance!!!

Someone just tweeted “Watsup with Africans and the Azonto
dance?” and the tweet got me giggling!!
Well, Azonto dance is getting popular and growing worldwide. Azonto, a Ghanaian dance, has taken over dance forms
at clubs, house parties and even churches. Everyone has forgotten about the
Yahoozee dance, Alanta dance, Makosa dance, Awilo dance and the likes…it is now Azonto!!!
Azonto dance craze in churches is taken deep root as song leaders,
choristers, Praise and Worship groups and even the younger generation
with youthful exuberance who try to out-do each other with the antics and gestures.(Oyah, let’s go there)

The dance, which is usually performed with an accompanying smile, involves a
similar movement of the feet, hands, and hips and, at the end of every move, a
gun-shot mimicked with the hand and, if possible, the mouth.  Azonto, when taught effectively can be learned
within ten minutes.

The dance was made very popular by
Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan in his goal celebrations for his club and
during matches of the Ghana Black Stars.

Azonto has been further
commercialized with its inclusion in music lyrics and music video clips.
Examples of such songs include:
  • Bend Down (Azonto) Koo Wiase prod. by Jay Q
  • U Go Kill Me – Sarkodie
  • Sweetio – Raquel ft Sarkodie
  • Azonto – Wizkid
  • Azonto Fiesta – Sarkodie
  • Obuu Mo – EL
  • And several others…
I really really really luv Azonto…*winks*
