“I have never been happier…I married myself to celebrate the progress I have made in life after being divorced 6years ago.”
Ms Schwigert said she went through a painful time when her two kids chose to live with their father after her divorce.
“I was waiting for someone to come along and make me happy,” she says. “At some point, a friend said, ‘Why do you need someone to marry you to be happy? Marry yourself.’”
When Schweigert first mentioned the idea a year ago, she was discouraged by several female friends who thought it was weird but when the idea resurfaced some months ago she embraced it
“It was just one of those things where you get an idea, and you know you just have to do it…and this time my friends backed me up…two friends baked cakes, another friend officiated and many others presented readings.”
So far, Nadine enjoys spending time with herself, going out on date nights, buying treats and gifts for herself, and says she’s no longer waiting for “someone to complete her.”
